Cam Newton. Underrated 1.0

Superman.

ESPN released a top 100 offensive players list in the league today and it has sent me into absolute rage, which is what the list is intended to do. #100 has particularly made me angry beyond belief. Cam Newton. I am not mad he is #100 but the shear fact that Jay Cutler and Matt Stafford were ranked higher has made me vomit 3 times since I started typing this article. Before I give my opinion, Let me give you facts:

(94) Matt Stafford (4-12)
435/727 59.8% 4,967 passing 20 TD 17 INT / 126 rushing yrds 4 TD
(97) Jay Cutler (10-6)
255/434 58.8% 3,033 passing 19 TD 14 INT / 233 rushing yrds 0 TD
(100) Cam Newton (7-9)
280/485 57.7% 3,869 passing 19 TD 12 INT / 741 rushing yrds 8 TD

You have Megatron. Stop Complaining.
Despite Stafford throwing for close to 5,000 yards, he led his team to a horrendous 4-12 record after making the playoffs a year before. He also plays along side the most explosive WR in the NFL, Calvin "Megatron" Johnson. What would Newton's #'s look like if he played for the Detroit Lions....
419/727 57.7% 5,790 passing 28 TD 18 INT.......
In case you were wondering, His projected passing yards would eclipse the record for most yards in a single season by over 300 yards!!!!

The only reason people give a gerbil's shit about Matt Stafford is because of "Fantasy Football". Yes, he is a serviceable QB in the NFL but to put him ranked higher than one of the NFL's great talents is an absolute joke. Cam has extremely limited talent around him compared to Cutler and Stafford.

Drinking? Way better than Cam.
Now on to Jay Cutler. He stinks. He is overrated. I really do not know why people think he is anything special at all? He has been in the league 8 seasons and made the playoffs ONCE! His career QB rating is a pedestrian 84.0 with 136 TD and 100 INT. I really do not know what else to say. He is a natural born loser. He will never win a Super Bowl ever or give his team a chance. Year after year, The media will hype him up and he will continue to let everyone down. He has exceptional talent on his side of the ball with Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte. In 8 of 16 games last year he threw for less than 200 yards. VOMIT! Meanwhile, Cam finished strong winning 5 of 6 games with 10 TD and 2 INT.

Another Stat that stands out to me was Cam was hit on 25% of his rushes and drop backs, where the league average is 12%. The guy absorbs a ton of contact and is still able to throw for record breaking numbers. 7,881 passing yards is the most yards thrown by a QB in his 1st 2 seasons, which could be in jeopardy if Andrew Luck lights up the scoreboards again. Also, Cam's 62 total touchdowns are the 2nd most behind Dan Marino.

I think Carolina will be a better team than last season 7-9 team but it might not convert to more wins because of an extremely tough division once again. They upgraded their defense through the draft and improved their offensive line, which was much needed. I wish they added a WR to relieve fast aging Steve Smith, who still grabbed 70+ catches and 1100+ yards last season, but struggled to get in the end zone only 4 times last season. A big target in the red zone could be a huge difference maker for the Carolina Panthers in 2013, but we can only speculate at this point in the season.....

One thing that is a certainty though is Cam Newton is better than Cutler/Stafford, but for some reason people can't see it. Open up your eyes and start to take notice. There aren't many talents like Cam in the league today, Please don't make me say I told you so, because I sure as hell will.
